The Sangamon River which flows right on by our Lodge (thus the name, get it?) is an excellent way to see the natural landscape throughout Sangamon & Menard counties.

Depending on the water levels, paddlers can belly up directly next to the lodge and trundle on in for some drink and relaxation in an inspiring and unique atmosphere.

Petersburg is home to the famed “Dead Carp Drop”, near the now quasi-functional dam that was originally used to keep the water levels deep enough for the famed Talisman steamboat. Today it makes for fun kayaking.

You can see paddlers having fun nearly every week throughout the summers on the Sangamon. Petersburg’s Dead Carp Drop is home to an active local club called “Team Dirt Clod”,  who holds an annual “Smackdown” event each year.
